The basis for this seat is a recently developed technique known as FiDU (free inside pressure forming). This involves two thin steel sheets of identical shape, which are welded together. The space between them is then reshaped into the third dimension, with the help of pressurised air. As a result of the long-term “storage in the material” of the inside pressure, light sheet metal structures can be realised which are characterised by extreme stability and durability. This technique has served as the basis for the creation of the “BANKunterdruck” bench, which is designed for use in private or semi-public contexts. The lightness of the product is an appealing feature – as also the fact that in spite of serial production each one of these articles of furniture is a unique specimen.
